Turtles in Runway
JFK Flights delayed due to Turtles at runway.
JFK (John F. Kennedy International Airport) Flights were delayed due to turtles on the runway. Although it does not look like those Turtles saving the world, but they were looking for a better nest because they were pregnant.
There were approximately 40 Diamondback terrapins turtles which took over the airport delaying a lot many flights yesterday. This is not a new thing but happens every year, so the airport authority has a team dedicated to remove turtles. This briefly delayed planes but the reason for the delay was acceptable to the passengers because it is funny and since it is only once a year, we should give a way to the turtles. Since they are pregnant so it is an emergency and they don’t care if it delays flight operations. They started their invasion from 6:45 AM.
They are native to coastal side of eastern and southern US. The name terrapin is derived from torope. The name was earlier used by the European settlers in Northern America. There are many terrapins but these ones are diamondback category. They are mostly fresh water creatures but can suitably adapt to nearby shores. They can easily adapt to various salinity. If you are wondering how they look, here is a picture of an adult female turtles.
This is indeed a funny moment and twitter didn’t failed to capture this moment, here are some reactions from the tweets that are trending.
