Room Number 304 Ecstasy
Every break of dawn witnessed my inquisitiveness regarding my insecurities; a long chat with my mother pacified my nerves when everything else failed to provide solace to my intermittent inner-self. It was a Sunday morning and I was expecting a call from my cousin, Sameera was not just a cousin but also a soul mate, she was supposed to discuss the get together with me at granny’s place for the upcoming weekend. I was not well acquainted with everyone I was related to by blood for it has been more than five years I left my hometown and settled down in Bangalore.
I was not in a hurry as it was a Sunday morning and I did not leave the cozy blanket before the clock stroked twelve in the afternoon. The doorbell rang and since I was the only surviving empress of my little kingdom and apartment I could not even enjoy the bliss of a lazy Sunday afternoon and I had to attend to the uninvited and unwanted guest at my doorstep. To my surprise, it was the security guard holding a parcel. An array of thoughts crossed my mind with a single glance as I peeped through the keyhole before opening the door; I have been highly suspicious of everything and everyone right from my childhood.
Curiosity
“Ma’am someone left a parcel for you” said the watchmen handing over a package to me and left, he tried his level best to develop his phonetic skills but ended up calling me madam and not ma’am, I tried to teach him to pronounce it correctly over the years but all efforts ended in smoke. I kept the package on the couch and stepped into the kitchen I was wondering why did I end up starving myself on a Sunday afternoon? There was nothing left inside the refrigerator to gorge upon except for bread and cheese spread that did not arrest my attention for too long and I decided to take myself out on lunch.
As I was heading towards my bedroom, I took a note of that parcel, I wasted two more minutes by making assumptions about its source, and I tore open the parcel to find a box wrapped with a shiny gift-wrap and a small note that read, “More surprises inside”. My fretfulness did not allow me wait any longer and I tore open the gift-wrap and the box only to be left with hovering suspicion because inside the box laid another tiny box wrapped in a pink gift-wrap and a note attached to it.
Surprise
The note read, “I bet you were waiting for me” I was sure it was my brother trying to test my patience, and it was my turn to return the favor. Finally, I opened the tiny box to be disappointed for it had another note inside and nothing else, but as I read the note, my lips nestled to a smile. I could not afford to waste a minute.
I bumped into my wardrobe only to droop to a conclusion that I had nothing special to wear for the occasion and decided to pick on my favorite pair of jeans, crimson red T-shirt and white sneakers, since nobody was aware of how the room was casual seemed to be the best choice. It was difficult to hold back my excitement and at the same time, I wanted to get back home safe. I said my prayers before locking the door and left for the much awaited ghost hunting.
